THE HISTORY. On a humid August morning in 1913, David Clay DePalma was born in the small, destitute town of Gilbert in Clay County, Georgia. Dave never went to school and started working in the local hardware store at the age of 12.
During the Prohibition era of the 1920’s and early 30’s, the undercover business of whiskey, or "moonshine", running began to boom. At the age of 16 Dave started to illegally run whiskey from hidden stills to hundreds of markets across the Southeast.
As bootlegging boomed, the drivers began to race amongst themselves to see who had the fastest cars. Bootleggers raced on Sunday afternoons and then used the same car to haul moonshine Sunday night. In 1931, after winning several races, Dave was a local celebrity. In 1934 he left the south and went to California. Here he was literally invisible until 1943 when he joined the army.
In 1948, at the age of 35, he started working for his childhood friend, Joseph Gecco at Fresno Car Delivery. His job was to deliver cars all over the nation, often with a very tight timelimit. Dave had worked for Joseph for over twenty years when the cops, on September 16, 1969, found him dead in a wrecked 1951 Mercury Coupe near the city of Jackson, Mississippi.
In 1972, his life long friend Joseph and his son Jr decided to pay tribute to the man who always went his own way and often the wrong way. The DePalma Clothing Label was born and their small shop in Fresno produced Work Clothes in limited Series.
THE FUTURE. In 2002 Kristoffer Sundlin and Peter Camarstrand joined forces and purchased the DePalma brand. With a mutual love for Hot Rods, Custom Cars, Choppers and skateboarding the two decided to manage and evolve DePalma into the best brand in the world.
Since the rebirth of DePalma, the development, response and growth has been immense. Starting with only 15 stores the first year, Depalma is now represented in over 160 stores in 9 different countries.
